McIntyre, Donald

(1923–2009)

Although Yorkshire born, McIntyre spent many of his childhood holidays in Scotland. Initially training as a dentist, he took up painting full time aged 40.

He was greatly influenced by the Scottish Colourists and, like many before him, set up home in North Wales where he developed a painterly style, regularly taking as his subjects, the coastal scenes he first saw in childhood and then again when holidaying in Iona. He exhibited widely in the UK, including The Royal Academy, The Royal Scottish Academy and The Royal Cambrian Academy.
