Ribbons, Ian

London born, Ian Ribbons studied at Beckenham School of Art and served during World War Two in the Royal Artillery. From 1947-1951 he studied at the Royal College of Art before embarking upon a teaching career which took in posts at Guildford School of Art, Brighton College of Art, Hornsey College of Art and, from 1976, St Martin's School of Art.

Although accomplished with both brush and pen, Ribbons is best remembered for his distinctive watercolours of London scenes which display a strong sense of movement and capture the bustle of the Capital.
